(www.kdca.go.kr)

(www.kdca.go.kr)

(www.seocho.go.kr)

🌿 Can flu and COVID-19 vaccines be given at the same appointment?

Yes. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency recommends receiving both vaccines at the same visit for eligible adults aged 65 and older, following assessment by the clinician.

“Co-administration” means giving separate vaccines during one appointment. It does not mean mixing them into a single injection.

For families supporting an older parent, one appointment may reduce the practical burden of arranging transport and accompanying them to the clinic. The decision should still take account of the person’s current health and vaccination history. (www.kdca.go.kr)

🌿 When does vaccination begin in Korea?

The following dates reflect the KDCA’s October 2 announcement for the 2026–2027 vaccination season. This article was prepared on October 4, 2026.

Age groupFlu vaccination beginsCOVID-19 vaccination begins
75 and olderOctober 6, 2026October 12, 2026
70–74October 12, 2026October 12, 2026
65–69October 15, 2026October 15, 2026

For this season’s older-adult programme, eligibility includes people born on or before December 31, 1961.

An exception allows earlier co-administration: a clinic that has both vaccines may offer them together from October 6, in line with the person’s flu eligibility date and the examining clinician’s judgement.

This exception does not mean that every clinic will provide COVID-19 vaccination on October 6. Families should call before travelling. Nursing hospitals and residential care facilities may follow separate arrangements. (www.kdca.go.kr)

🌿 What should caregivers check before the visit?

A short phone call can prevent an unnecessary journey. Ask whether the clinic:

  • Offers both flu and COVID-19 vaccination.

  • Can provide both at the same appointment.

  • Requires an appointment.

  • Needs any documents in addition to identification.

Bring the older person’s identification and, where available, a medication list and previous vaccination records.

Tell the clinician about current symptoms, chronic conditions and any previous serious vaccine reaction. These details help the clinician assess whether vaccination is appropriate that day. (www.seocho.go.kr)

🌿 What should families watch for after vaccination?

Allow time to remain at the clinic for approximately 20–30 minutes after vaccination. This observation period helps staff respond promptly if an immediate reaction occurs.

Mild reactions, such as pain or swelling at the injection site, can occur. Contact a healthcare professional if symptoms are severe, persist or cause concern.

Difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat, or fainting requires urgent assessment. In Korea, call 119 or seek emergency care immediately. (kdca.go.kr)

🌿 Frequently asked questions

Do both vaccines have to be given on the same day?

No. Co-administration is a recommended option. Families can discuss the timing with the clinician and check what the clinic can provide.

Can a person aged 75 or older receive both vaccines on October 6?

Possibly. The clinic must have both vaccines, and the examining clinician must judge co-administration appropriate. The general COVID-19 start date for this age group is October 12, so advance confirmation is essential.

What if my parent lives in a nursing home?

Contact the facility before booking an outside appointment. Residential facilities may have separate vaccination arrangements, and checking first helps avoid duplicate bookings. (www.kdca.go.kr)

What information should I share with a care provider afterward?

Share which vaccines were given, the vaccination date and any symptoms that followed. Keeping this information together can help family members and care staff communicate clearly.

🌿 A small step in preparing for winter

Preparing for vaccination involves more than choosing a date. It also means checking the clinic, arranging support for the journey and leaving time for observation afterward.

For families using Garim Nursing Home or Garim Day Care Center in Buyeo, sharing vaccination information with the care team is a practical way to keep everyone informed.
