Thank You to the Volunteers and Supporters Who Care Behind the Scenes
A nursing home is much more than a building where care services are provided. It is a community shaped by many people—caregivers, families, volunteers, supporters, neighbors, and individuals who simply want to make someone else's day a little better.
At Garim Nursing Home and Garim Day Care Center, we are fortunate to meet many people who share their time, skills, and resources with our seniors.
Some of them visit us in person. Others quietly send supplies or offer support without ever appearing in a photograph.
Today, we want to say thank you to all of them.
A Special Haircut Service from Suwon
Recently, volunteers from Suwon Saesaengmyeong Church traveled to Buyeo to provide haircut services for our elderly residents.
For many younger adults, getting a haircut is a simple part of everyday life. For an older adult with limited mobility, however, a trip to a hair salon can require considerable preparation and assistance.
This is especially true for seniors who use wheelchairs or find long outings physically exhausting.
That is why an on-site haircut service can be so meaningful.
The volunteers carefully trimmed and styled each resident's hair while also taking time to talk with them.
There were conversations, smiles, and moments of genuine human connection throughout the day.
A haircut may seem like a small thing, but personal grooming remains an important part of daily life at every age.
Looking neat and feeling refreshed can also provide a pleasant change of pace and an opportunity for social interaction.
A Moment of Prayer and Personal Connection
Another memorable part of the visit was the time the pastor spent with our residents.
He approached seniors individually, spoke with them at eye level, listened to them, and offered prayers for their health and peace.
What stayed with us was the personal attention given to each individual.
Older adults living in long-term care continue to need the same things all of us need: respect, conversation, companionship, and the feeling that someone genuinely cares about how we are doing.
We are deeply grateful to the pastor and volunteers from Suwon Saesaengmyeong Church for traveling such a long distance to spend time with our residents.
Support That Often Goes Unseen
Not every supporter can visit in person.
Some people donate everyday supplies. Others provide items that can be used in activities for our residents. Some send snacks or useful household goods.
These contributions may not always appear in photographs, but they are still part of the daily life of our care community.
We believe the value of a donation should not be measured only by its price or size.
Behind every contribution is a simple thought:
“Could this be useful for the seniors?”
That thought itself means a great deal to us.
Helping Us Create Better Living Spaces and Gardens
Garim is also continuing to improve both indoor and outdoor spaces for our residents.
Our garden is particularly important to us.
Flowers, plants, fresh air, sunlight, and seasonal changes can provide opportunities for sensory stimulation, conversation, and participation in everyday activities.
Our goal is not simply to create a beautiful landscape.
We want the garden to become a welcoming part of daily life, including for residents who use wheelchairs or have limited mobility.
For this reason, support related to gardening and environmental improvements is also greatly appreciated.
Planters, flowers, trees, gardening supplies, outdoor tables and chairs, appropriate furniture, and other useful items may help us improve these spaces.
We also welcome conversations with people who have professional skills in areas such as gardening, landscaping, woodworking, painting, interior improvement, or minor facility maintenance.
Because this is a care environment for older adults, safety must always come first. We therefore ask potential donors or volunteers to contact us before delivering materials or beginning any work so that we can confirm what is currently needed and appropriate.
Volunteering Can Take Many Forms
Volunteering does not always require a large organization or a major financial contribution.
A hairstylist can offer a haircut.
A musician can share a song.
Someone who loves plants can help care for a garden.
A skilled craftsperson may be able to help improve a living space.
And sometimes simply sitting beside an older adult and listening to their story can be meaningful.
Each person brings something different.
When those individual acts of kindness come together, they help create a richer and more connected environment for our seniors.
Care Is Ultimately About People
Professional care, nutritious meals, health management, safe facilities, and meaningful activities are all essential parts of elder care.
But behind all of these things are people.
Someone calls a resident by name.
Someone listens.
Someone cuts their hair.
Someone prays for them.
Someone plants a flower.
Someone repairs something that needs attention.
Someone quietly sends a box of useful supplies.
These actions may look small individually, but together they help create a caring community.
To the pastor and volunteers from Suwon Saesaengmyeong Church, thank you for making the journey from Suwon to Buyeo and spending your valuable time with our residents.
And to every volunteer, donor, organization, church, neighbor, and supporter who helps us behind the scenes: thank you.
Even when your name does not appear in a post and your face is not in a photograph, your kindness is remembered. 💗
